LIFESAVING:

RLSS - CTigson & Soden Shields 1982 saw the final year BCGS completed in the QGSSSA Lifesaving Competition. This was a conscious decision made by the Principal and Head of the Health and Physical Education Department as they saw lifesaving as a non- competitive activity which was better addressed within the curriculum Historically, lifesaving has been an integral part of the Physical Education program and it continues to dominate the aquatics program. This emphasis resulted in BGGS winning the RLSS Soden Shield (the greatest points SCOi'ed by a Girls' School) forthe first timein 1981 The program has grown in SII'ength to the point where in the 1987-88 season, BGGS won both the Soden Shield and the Grigson Shield (highest points overall in Queensland) The school is now the only institution in Queensland to have won these Shields five years consecutive Iy fi'om 1987 to 1992.
