1992 School Magazine

O'CONNOR HOUSE 1992/1as been an extremely productive yeai. for O'Connor House. Our dieat House spirit and enthusiasm first came to light at the House barbecue. 11 was definitely a good sign for the up and coming interhouse competitions. Although we didn't quite come first in the swimming we were most definitely in there with the best of them. An outstanding individual result was achieved by Lisa FraseT (Year Nine) who won the Open 100 metres breaststroke and 111e foul'teen year 50 metre breaststroke Our perfoi'mance of "An African Tale" in the interhouse drama competition was of a very high standard and was expel'11y directed by lulla Hogai'Ih We continued with great determination into the debating competition, our team comprising of Cainin Malthews (Year Eight), Kale E!Iham (Year Ten) and Eva Wood (Year Eleven). The girls made it to the semi-final, under' the bril- 11ant direction of Ingrid Hadgraft, but were mai'ginally defeated by CTiffitli. in the Intel'house choral competition, 0'Connor was yet again a very strong contendei'. The song "Turn Again Home" was both wi'illen and conducted by MIChelle Tsui and accoinpanied by Christine Muirhead on the piano.

This year was O'Connoi"s most successful year at the gymnastics. OUT Rhythmic gym team, under the guidance of ChristIe Lane, did extremely well to be placed 1111rd overall, with the Rope team tying for first place and the Ribbon team coming second. Oui' Artistic gym team was also very successful in the competition with strong leader- ship from Triorid Hadgi'afi. Oui' vault and beam teams both placed first. Congratulations to the O'Connor gymnastics teams who, combined, were placed fifth in the compeli- The Intel'house Athletics was very successful with out- standing individual achievements by Blenda Carlson (Year Eight), Kale Bent!ey (Year Nine), Sarah MCEvoy (Year Ten) and Ingrid Hadgraft (Year Twelve). Both the swim- mino and athletics were extremely well organised by Lauren Maccliei'one and Sarah Davidson, 0'Connoi' spoils captains Thanks must go to Mrs Kings who was extremely lielpful and suppoi. live throughout the year Good luck to next year's seniors and captains and especially to O'Connoi' House lion.
