ELLENA PAPAS Ellena Fapas in Year Ten is the fourth generatiom of her family to attend Brisbane Girls' Grammar School. Already Ellena has won high acclaim for her musical achievements. Harp is her principal instrument but Ellena also studies piii"no, organ, f lute and voice' She has received the Queensland Conservatorium of Music R.ees Morgan Prize for Fiarp three times, and has been the recipient of the Conservatorium Music School Scholarship (string instruments) for {ive consecutive years, as well as a vocal scholarship. As a pianist, Fllena has held the Yamaha Music Foundation Scholarship since-1983 and has gained many firsts in eisteddfods, including the Whitehouse Gold Medal. This young musician's abilities do not stop at performancl, but also extend to the creative field of composition. On four occasions, her works have been selected for entry in the International Young Composers' Competition. I Ellena is in no doubt about her future; she wants to perform and aims for an international career. But first, she wants a Masters Degree in Performance and Composition from the University of Queensland. Barbara Hebden

SUSAhIFdAffi WEBB Susannah Webb, Music Captain at Cirls' Crammar School, Brisbane, has had a very busy year with school musical aciivities and her involvement with the Queensland Youth Orchestra and Camerata at St lohn's. An outstandinrg young violinist, Susannah won a scholarship in 1982 to study at the Victorian College of the Arts. As a student at B.G.G.S., she was awarded First Prize in the Junior Strings Competition in 1985 and B5 and was a finalist in the Pine Rivers Music Contest Scholarship and the winner of the Acie Gillies Memorial Prize f or strings. ln 1987 Susannah was awarded the Certificate of Distinction, Queensland Education Department, for obtaining the highest pass in Queensland in her Associate Music Diploma examination' That same year she was one of the four finalists chosen f rom around Australia to compete in the National Youth Concerto Competition for young string players. Susannah was awarded third prize in a very closely contested competition. Susannah is again the only Queensland finalist in this year's National Youth Concerto Competition. This talented girl hopes to continue her studies in Germany. She gets special pleasure f rom playing Chamber Music. B. Hebden

ROSEAd,ERY PALLNSTER. As Rosemary Pallister completes her studies at the Cirls' Grammar Sihool, Brisbane, at the end of 1988, the school community would like to pay tribute to her musical achievements. ln the seven years she has been a pupil of Miss Joyce Skelton, her progress has been remarkable. Rosemary has been awarded numerous major prizes.at Eisteddfods, including the Junior Championship at the Wynnum Eisteddfod and the Under Seventeen Championship at the 1988 Brisbane Eisteddfod. While still only in Year Ten, Rosemary Pallister won the Wight Medal for excellence in piano performance at B.C;.C.S., and in 1987 was presented with the Valda Cillies Prize f or the best interpretation of a set piece by Bach or Mozart.
