hN@CKEV Over the 19BB season the standard of hockey at Crammar has improved in all aspects including the skill level of individual players, coaching, support and recognition of the sport in the school. Since the decision was made to allow both the Grammar A and B Crade to compete in the Brisbane Club Fixtures on Saturday afternoon, several people have commented on the outstanding success of the teams. The A Crade won the President's Cup on 6th June, for the f irst time. We are now in the position of having both teams with an excellent chance of winning the Grand Final Cup in their respective divisions. This success also extends into the Q.G.S.S.S.A. f ixtures. At this stage in the season, C Grade have not had a goal scored against them and will go very close to being Premiers. Several reasons for the improvement are evident. The coaches, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Crowley and Mrs Harvey- Short, have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to teaching us the many skills of the game. The parents have become even more supportive, providing morning teas at each of our home games. On the social scene, enjoyable team functions have been held at the Paddington Plum (A Grade) and at Sizzlers (B Grade). The geriatrics game also promises to be a hard- fought competition between the girls and the parents th is year. From ',l6-19th July, we billeted a hockey team from Strathallan in Scotland. The coaches Save the A and B teams the privileges of playing them on the astro turf at QEll. We all felt Olympic standard for an hour. The year saw the beginning of the weekly Hockey Newsletter which has been received very well. lt gives an opportunity for us to see our names in print and applaud the efforts of our hockey team mates. Unfortunately, over the season, illness has affected the A Crade quite badly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the girls who very capably filled in for our missing members. With such depth in the teams, the success o{ Grammar Hockey is assured for years to come.
