We're Blue . . . because we're Blue . . . because we're Blue because we're Blue Yes this was the Exceptional, Exhilarating, Exciting, Earsplitting ROAR that emitted from England house in 1988' This year welcomed an unusuaf Sroup of supersonic, brilliant, enthusiastic, talented (deep breath) legendary (there's that word again) group of Grade Eights. After welcoming our'groovy; newlittle Englandites with a huge chocolate cakeind house war cry practice (has anyone got a voice left?;, the year was off to a leaping, revving beginning' England House, after producing the.first of our House neivsletters, christened a 'cool' 'England Editorial', was really organised. "England's Enormous Extravaganzg'.' laliai HorJse BBQ) provLd to be a supersonic success with the ssssssimply sstunning title of 'Miss England' being awarded to Saiah Bekessy (Year Nine). What a day it was . . . after surviving the awesome balloon relays in the pool (swimming train-ing) and consuming huge amounts of junk food Jen"rgy food) we were all ready to collapse in a h"up ... However it was now time to reveal those taut, terrif ic bods in the annual 'swim or die'competition. We got off to a Sreat start, but that was about it. Having not quite recovered from the annual aquatic adveniure, house members found they had to endure the annual "FESTIVAL OF PAlN", that is the great "CARDIAC-ARREST" cross country. lntentions for early morning training were good ... but you don't get points for good intentions. Well ... let's say the cheering was goo"d and the brilliant run by Louise Seaman (Year Ten) iuus a very impressive win for the house' Congratulations ! This year, England's prowess did not end on the Cross Country tracf,. The Cymnastics competitions revealed our great skill and proficiency, with the Crade Eights perfJrming especiaily well. Our exceptional debaters worked exlremely hard, with the Grade Twelve team (Wendy Roberts, Tori Moore and Ceri McDonald) and ih" Crid" Eleven team (Margot Cowen, Erica Fryberg and Tanya Culliver) winning their competitions, defeating an unnamed purple house. Well done, England ! Our House Play, "Abracadabra", was definitely the highlight of England's year. With strong house partici- puiion", the lnte"r-House drama was a mega-success with England reigning victoriously. A huge.thankyou must go to "nobyn Tiyloi (Year Twelve), the director, and Erica Fryberg (Yeir Eleven), the playwright, who combined tr.."rifrlly to produce the play. "Abracadabra" ref lected the indisputable talent so common to England House members.'With such brilliant directors and talented actresses (l wish I could mention all the stars involved) the night really was unforgettable. 100

Our house movies and weekly assemblies have kept the spirit of England alive. Our seniors (what a wonderful bunch they are I l) Iooked terrif ic this year attired in Blue tutus and-England shirts. Not to be forgotten is the approaching ithletics competition (which, of course, we're all training hard for) and the lnter-House Choral Competition. Our song, "Bicentennial Blues", written by Wendy Roberts, Tori Moore and Katrina Biltoft is sure to be a success. As England house captain, I have totally enjoyed the "*p"ri"n." of working with a polite, talented, cheerful group of girls. lt is an experience both worthwhile and i-remorable. Sincere thanks go to Felicity, Fmy, Michaela, Jenny and Jane for their support, and to ihe form seniors for making it such an enjoyable year' Naturally without the vigilance of our ever-active house mistress, Mrs Siddle, ihe house would never have functioned so smoothly. Every England house member should be proud of her achieuements in 1988 and especially pioud of England. I would like all the Englan.d giif t," ,emember thatit a school like Crammar you only i*t ort whaI vou put in, and thus encourage them to do l,rrnrch as thev can f or the house and the school' To lhe seniors and captain of next year - don't make 1989 just another year - make it an exceptional one and remember England is a BRILLIANT house' n",,"t#i,?;li#; F.S. Thanks must 80 to all the other houses, for their competition ind spirit which has made house activities so much fun.
