1985 School Magazine

TENNIS REPORT The Tennis teams in 1985, got off to a "smashing" start, and maintained this standard and pace throughout the season. Kinsten Osborn was a welcome addition to the A Grade, bringing with her an American accent and impressive consistency. The A Grade had some tough batt les and completed the season in fifth place. The " B" grade had a most successful season, drawing with St Margarets, who won the competition and losing to Somerville House 27-26. Their final position was second. The triumph of the season, howeve r, was our capturing the C Grade and Year 9 Premierships. The C Grade was hard- pressed by Somerville House and the Yea r 9's closest match was a 26-25 win over Moreton Bay College. Congratulations to both teams. The Year 8 team acc red ited themselves well, only losing to B.S.H.S. (25-24) 2nd , Somerville House (34-18) and were finally placed eq ual-second with B.S.H.S. On School Day, Tracey Armstrong (A Grade) and Cathriona Rae (Grade 8) battled for the prestigious School Open Tennis Championship. Cathriona finally defeated Tracey, displaying her usual accurate pl acement of shots. This match predicts great things for Grammar tennis, as Tracey is in Grade 10 and Cathriona is new to the school. Much of our success is due to th e encouragement and enthusiasm of our new coach, Miss Roden. Miss Roden organised our training sessions and li aised with Fancutt Coaching School to polish our match skills. Thanks for making it such a fun and er;joyable season, Miss Roden!
