WEST SIDE STORY on the 17th,'lBth and 19th of Muy, B.G.G.s. and B.G.s. presented the popular musical "West Side Sto ry" (or as the blackboards arou nd the school read, after they had been "vandalised", Wet Sid Storyl) in the school auditorium. Many weeks of extensive (!) exhausting (!) but fun (?) rehearsals had already gone before, endless Su ndays, Thursdays and then even Saturdays and Tuesdays as well! "West Side Story" tells of two rival gutrgS, The Jets (American) and The Sharks (Puerto Rican). Samantha Hellen and DaniBotsman played the lead characters Maria and Ton y,who are young and in love despite the turmoil around them caused by sang violence and racial hatred. Peter Davidson played Bernardo (Maria's older brother and leader of the Sharks) and h is girlf riehd, the f iery Anita, was played by Cassie webb. Jack Nicklin played Riff, leader of the Jets. with a supporting cast of thousands (well it seemed like it!) plus our magnificent stage crew, orchestra, rehearsal pianist Mrs. Best and lighting and sou nd crewS, the whole giant conglomeration was under the expert direction of Mrs. osborne and the auspices of choreographer, Mrs. Lucille Dwyer.

And what did we really do behind the scenes? (Or should I say the scaffolding?) Wellwho could forget "the Brylcream song" (in fact an endless repertoire of songs) a la Jack and Dani? For those not involved in Bishwool (the gang of two are not yet th ru) there was the Jack and Geoff (or Cooper & Fosset) fan club and the sweet interludes of lunchtime piano playing. If you were without a chair to sit on there was always someone's lap available, and we'd all be rich if we had a dollar for everytime we heard the words "Move those bodies" (during Dance at the cym - not after the death sceh€, du mmies !) Finally amid falling beds, f rustrations but heaps of laughs (and triumphs) the perfoi'mances were over, Ross-the- chainsmoking-stage-manager had stubbed out his last butt. Off icer Krupke had been krupped one last time and we said ou r goodbyes. Then there was the cast party,
