!ROMAN ][))ANCJEJR§ The Roman Dancers represent the students of La tin at functions. Their first performance was at the Classics Night in March at B.G.G.S., where the girls also served Roman foods and so ld the school 's own Roman cookery books. On May 29th a performance was given at Sinnamon village, a retirement centre of the Uniting Church. Saturday July 31st was a very busy day with a lunchtime performance at the University of Queensland's Expo Uni for the Fashion Parade of the students of the Classics Department and at night the Ethnic night was held at B.G.G.S . In September the Roman Dancers joined the French Folklore Group on the trip to Brookvale Park, where 2 performances were given during the Heritage Festival of the Darling Downs. We hope that with the enthusiastic leadership of Mimi Cardell and the help of Gina Brett the group will consolidate. The tamboriries that were purchased this year provide many opportunities for new dances. J. Spykerboer

'fHE CULTURAL EVENING On March lOth, 1982, a group of Latin students stayed behind after school to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event - the B.G.G.S . Cultural Evening. Six Latin students (and one pseudo · Latin student who "came for the food") and two teachers assembled in the canteen that day, cooking rissoles, honey cakes, stuffed dates, cheesecakes, stuffed dates, rissoles (actually alcoholic meatballs), and more rissoles. (Thanks must go to Miss Gibson for cutting up the cheese). By six o'clock that night, the food was prepared, and all sat down to a genuine Roman banquet. We emerged, two hours later, full, drunk and happy. The Roman dancers danced, the slaves slaved, and a good time was had by all. After a most informative talk by the Professor from Uni, all migrated to the library for wine, cheese and a fascinating insight into the culture of other coun- tries. Overall it was a successful night (we sold six copies of the Authentic Roman Cookbook!).
