Grammar Singers This year, I 98 l, has been a busy and successful year for the Choir and we have enjoyed ourselves very much. We would like to thank our conductor, Mr. Montague, our accom- panist, Mr. Denning, other members of the siaff, and parents, lor all their hard work and encouragement freely given throughout the year. At practices this year we have been singing Elgar's 'Bavarian Highlands', Bach's 'Jesu Priceless Treasure', Purcell's 'Te Deum Laudamis', Handel's 'Zadok the Priest', and many hymns. In April we provided a service of hymns for the A.B.C. which was broadcast on Easter Sunday. We sang hymns at the Young Organist Society's annual concert. Our conductor, on long service leave, left us in second semester to visit England, but we continued to sing in a small group one morning each week until his return. We are now practising for the Christmas season, lor our an- nual carol service at St. Johns Cathedral. All out friends are invited to this service. Also we have been invited to sing at the Anglican church at the end of term. The choir meets every week and everyone who is interested is welcome to come and join. There are no auditions or any en- trance requirements other than enthusiasm. Once again thank you to Mr. Montague, Mr. Denning, staff and flriends. We wish the 6th formers best of luck in the luture, and to everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Rowena Harris and Diana Read

Wind Band l98l Wind Band has existed in the school for the last two years as Training Band, and only oflicially adopted the title "Wind Band" this year. The Band consists of 36 members, with representatives of each grade in the group, united by their love of music. The music is lively and varied, due to the range of instruments assembled, from saxaphones, tubas and trombones to the more familiar, yet vital clarinets and flutes. Wind Band fosters friendship, teamwork and fun, but most rmportantly the development of musical appreciation and skill. Expertise is gained through band participation; the ability to play before an audience and as an entity only learnt through experience. Already the Band has performed at two school concerts and also on School Day, the standard ol musicianship improving with each performance. Credit is due to all involved: Mr. Warden, the girls and Mrs. Zamora, as some members only

recently commenced lessons on new instruments. OUR MOTTO -EVER HIGHER WE, AIM.
