1979 School Magazine
BOARDERS' NOTES lst Term: 1979 began with the usual unpacking and "ex- citement" of beginning of the new school year. The beginning of the new term also brought the arrival of two new student teachers - Miss C. De Costa Roque and Miss J. Chard who for the rest of the year assisted with boarders' studies and prep. Our first major function for the year was our annual crowning of Miss Boarding House. The year's Princess went to Melissa Hughes of fourth form and runner up to Melissa was Karen Trist in third lorm. The Queen of the Boarding House for 1979 was presented to Anna Nolan of fifth form with Wendy De Munari of sixth form being runner up. Our first major o.uting for the boarders this term was a morning in the Botanical Gardens followed by a boat cruise down to Lone Pine. On the 17th February, B.G.G.S. and B.G.S. entertainment committee organised a coffee night for forms nine, ten, and eleven. The evening turned out to be quite a success. Not only did we socialise with B.G.S. during first term but we also had a dance here at school with the Churchie lads during March. 2nd Term: The term began with a meeting of .the B.G.G.S. and B.G.S. entertainment committees - here we arranged a dance for the 2nd of June at Boys' Gram- mar. The evening turned out to be a success. The follow- ing day about 17 boarders volunteered their time to assist Mr. Dale in doing some collecting, from this we raised about $100 which went to the boarders' amenities. During second term we arranged an afternoon of sport- ing activities with B.G.S. - after which we had a Barbecue. This term the boarders seemed to involve themselves in a lot more activities within the school. A lot of girls were involved in lnterschool Sports, choir, concert band, or- chestra, debating and other such activities as the school plays. On the whole all the boarders who participated should be congratulated on their involvement within the school.
3rd Term: Soon after beginning this term we found ourselves involved in training for the G.P.S. athletics and also contributing towards school day. This year the boarders worked with their houses and as a result there seemed to be a lot more activity going on within the house. On the 29th September a busload of boarders went out to the G.P.S. athletics at Mt. Gravatt to support the school and also to support the many boarders who gain- ed placed in the athletics team. The sixth form formal and a boat cruise with Churchie occupied everybody's minds during the second half of the lerm, and of course the countdown until the Christmas holidays! The success of this year would never have eventuated without the help and interest generated within the boar- ding house by Mrs. Hancock and Mrs. Best. Thanks also to Miss Chard and Miss De Costa Roque. Finally, the 6th form boarders would like to wish next year's 6th form and the boarders of B.G.G.S, the best of luck for the years ahead . , . (heh heh) P.S, Due to a twice weekly boarders' sport effort, there is now no such thing as chubby boarders. (???)
