,.THE BEAUTIFUL DOWNTOWN BERRIDALE REPORT" Alter a somewhat perilous and at times precarious, flight to the prestigious Canberra airport and a journey by bus, we arrived al our resort which was, we were to discover, in "beautiful downtown Berridale" (according to radio reports!)The weather was extremely cold. However we braved it to the dining room only to regret this on suc- ceeding nights - we never knew "Farmland" had such a wide variety oJ frozen foods. ln our eagerness we left our resort at 7.30 a.m. to arrive at Smiggins about 12.00. Once again the dreaded strikes hit, leaving the roads uncleared. ln the days thal followed many would return with grins almost as big as their bruises. From the chairlift one could observe the many crumpled heaps which were in- variably the remains of Grammar Girls who had "blundered". Often weary, we walked, staggered or slipped into the Bistro for lunch, to revive and regain our circulation so that we could go home with all ten fingers and a nose. But don't be fooled. These were not the only reasons girls would queue for miles just to be served by that cute, tanned, blue-eyed guy only to find the change thrown at them from the girl at the check-out. We returned to the slopes ready to tackle an afternoon of skiing as well as, f requently embarrassing pile-ups. We all clambered onto the bus reluctantly only to hear of other's breath{aking and heart-thumping experiences of skiing (the latter mainly referring to the lessons or to be explicit, the instructors). Many sighs were heard after that first lesson with Tom Meals at our motel were supplemented with chocolate eclairs, assorted pastries, lemonade, "snakes", "ripe raspberries", "freckles" and chocolate Bavarian cheesecake - during daily stops at Jindabyne - a local hang-out lor hungry skiers. Last but not least, we would like to thank Mrs. McPheat, Miss Harvey and the Thornquists for organizing and chaperoning the trip. We sincerely hope they enjoyed it as much as ourselves.
