POSEIDON Long grinding roar of the breakers on the reef. Little breezes crept over polished water beneath the Hoze of the heat Tiny glittering fish flicked hither ond thither Steamy earth, shore fledged with palms Forming a criss-cross pqttern of trees. Something creamy lay among the ferny reeds The vivid phantoms of his day dream And stroked the glistening thing Towmds noon as the floods of light fail more nearly To the perpendicular The stmks of colour of morning were smoothed in Pearl and opalescene. The glittering sea rose up, moved apart in planes of Blatant impossibility The coral reef and a few stunted palms that clung Elevated parts would float up into the sky The wn gazed down like any angry eye A deep hqrsh note boomed under the palms Then o creanfie stepped from mirage on to the clear sand When the sun sank darkness dropped on him like An extinguisher. Here and there a few seagulls fly_ overhead 6ailg til d;gs that hope- lessly chase them and grow tired. iip n*rE.mrn stand patiently.and.cqlryly waiting for a bite, while the waves break against their legs nearly-knocking tlir- ourr. Later when the sun has cornpletely disappeared and the stars are out, the beach will b6come loneiv and deserted. The sound of the sea will seem louder anA i fittle eerie like las_t night when the ful1 moon reflected on the water leaving a shimmering silver strip, apathway to the moon for anyone who dared to take the first-cold stlp.
