E"G. G"S. PAREINT'S' & F'RSENDS' ASS@CEAT'TON

The Fanents'& Friends'Association is now a well established identity within the school. It functions both as a service to the girls and their paf, ents and as a business venture - with this year's annual tunn- over of sorne $70,000. It has grown considerabXy since its inception. ,{part from its rnain ventune, tlae tuckshop, it covers such diverse fields as the setriing of books, botla new and second hand, stationeny, clothing pool, and arranging theatre parties. AIl ofthese activities are run by a tireless band of votruntary helpers. There is room for all rnothers to help with these ventures or to assist with our various social fi-lnctions. No qualifications are required for membership and as "old" fu{ums leave, "new" ones are needed to take their places. Xf you do have special talents we would like to use thern. "Men's I-ib" has broken the barriers and it is heartening to have two Dads on our Executive, that is our F{on. Treasurer and F{on. Auditor. Our thanks to the Trustees who have so kindly provided a room for us so that we now have a per- manent home for our new and secondhand books and stationery. Our big project for '76 has been to furnish this new storage room with steel shelving and cupboards etc. Fathers have come to the fore to do the electrical work, painting, plumbing and flooring. We appreicate the Centenarv Euilding Fund's contribution to this proje€t. It will be ready for use for 1977 . Various musical instruments have been provided for the klusic Department. T'o enable working parents to attend, the two general meetings are held in the evening. At our first one this year fu{iss Shaw addressed the meeting on the subject of "Girls'Grammar Curriculum Today", and Mrs. X-ynch on "Student Counselling". The guest speakers for the second meeting were Mr. D. O'Erien, whose subject was "Tertiary Admissions" and Mrs. M. Rutherford who spoke on "Trends in Employment." Among our social functions have been the "Welcome to New Mothers" and an "Antique Luncheon", during which Mr. W. Leggatt gave an address on Antiques. School Day found us busy serving afternoon teas. During August a Careers Evening was held to help girls in Grades 10, I I and l2 to choose their future careers. Some fifty consul- tants were available to answer the many questions that the girls or their parents may have had. As a farewell to school days the Farents'& Friends'As- sociation hold a VI Form dinner to which the girls rnay invite their parents. Our annual fashion parade and morning tea this year was both qur breaking-up- party and a farewell to Miss Shaw. All members of the administration, domestic and ground staff are sincerely thanked for their help during the year. As six years as F{eadmistress draw to a close, a special thank you to Miss Shaw for her co-operation and help with our problems and our best wishes are with her for a long and happy retire- rnent. To all those who have helped to make our As- sociation the success that it is go my personal thanks. Veronica Ferrir, President Fage Sixty - Four
