Sunday-Que nous6tionslat6s!'0 We slept in till 6.30. Breakfasl at 7.30, croissants of course. T'hen, having welcomed Mlle. Vl1 and explained to her (in slow and halting French because she wouldn't let us speak English) the intricacies of camp life, we all moved over to the open-air chapel for a well-done and thoroughly enjoyable service religieux followed by a treasure hunt (you didn't know that yellow sleeping bags, green -hairbrushes and pink iooth- brushes were so valuable, did you?) After rafraichissements we split up once more into our groups to listen and rry to talk to various native French speakers as they told us about their coin du rnonde.12 Before lunch, those who dared could go swim- ming, but we from B.G.G.S. took over the see-saws again and .Io Mitchell braved the odds and accom- panied Sid but soon discovered the foolishness of this action. At 3.30 the homeward bound bus arrived and we piled on. We pulled out, the melodious shriek of an all too familiar whistle ringing in our ears, and all the way home we received puzzled looks from passers-by who happened upon a busload ofvoices raised in French song. 1 Hi There! 2 teeth 3 cfiicken, mushrooms, potatoes, pears a France 5 Cathy Hunt 6 skits t pastry and cakes 8 very dangerous French games e tr-ettr.lce to How spolit we were rr Miss Vernon, to the uneducated t2 corner of the world Carolyn Brown VC, Kym Mills VA, Jo Mitchell !B, Barbqra Baxter VB, Jenny Given VB, Loryn Farmer VB, Rowena Downes VE, Joanne Spencer VA, Kathy (Sid) Hunt VB, Julie O'Day VC.
Salut les copains! I Friday, 1Oth September, 1976.
5.30 - The defences of Camp Warrawee crumbled under the onslaught of l0 invading Grammar girls (helped slightly by 71 other girls 10 boys and 15 rather brave teachers) armed to les dents2 with our lirnited French vocabulary which we were prepared to Llse to the fullest of our brilliant capacity. For dinner we were plied with poulet, champig- nons, pommes de terre et poiress after which we were subjected to close interrogation due to our sus- pected knowledge of ttre existence of a certain hex- agonal country.4 Our cross-examiners discovered that they had falsely accused us; we really knew lit- tle at all. To steady our nerves and stimulate sweet dreams de la France, hot chocolate was served; however back in the Grammar hut, the dreams were not of that area, in fact they simply were not (having taiked till 2.30 we didn't have fime ro drearn before waking up again at 5.30) Saturday saw Sids establish herself as Queen of the See-saw, in which revered position she reigned suprerne.fgr- the remainder of the carnp (no6ody being suicidal enough to challenge h6r abilityj. Flighlight of _Saturday was the presentation of nos pidces de th6ltre6, an outstandingly arnusing ex- hibition of forgotten lines and ctlrirsy back, iards exists. In between our rehearsal sesiions we ate patisserieT and played des jeux franqais et trbs dangereux8 involving -the bombarding 5f one's op- ponents with balls of various sizes and materidls (lead apong them), all very lethal. Speaking of bombarding you've all heard of' tr-a B-ataille-des Fleurs, haven't you (haven't you?). Being original types, Grammar held La Bataille des Laituese at the Saturday dinner table. After the theatrical exhibi- tion on Saturday night we all sang, in French, for quite some time and found, much to our horror, that we had been taped. Having wandered vaguely in the direction of bed at I 1.30, we were visited at 12 by some friends from another school and plans were made for a rendez- vous for the purpose of eating several oriurges stashed in one of our cupboards. However, when they returned, expecting to be greeted by great shouts ofjoy, they were in fact greeted by ... snores! (Those late nights were just too much for us sweet young things).
