SFI@WL ?','RgP A976" At the ulracivilized hour of six o'clock on a Nfon- day rnorning, with a cold gale blowing, ft,'ir. and fu{rs. Cromnlenire and thirty-two blocks of ice slid into the T'.A..A. terrninal. What with all our rubtrish, or rather luggage, the activity was to say the least chaotic. Nfiracuiously we all inade it thro$gh the flights and the Sydney security checks to arnive in Canberra during a 9o C heat wave. We piled luggage and all into our "flashy" Boomerang bus. We were then "honoured" with a tour of Canberra seeing Farliament Holise, the Nationatr tr-ibrary, War Ndem- orial and Mount Ainstrie l-ookout. By then, the starving travellers' cry for FOOD was answered and we had lunch in Civic. If it wasn't for {-eith's chicken rolls we would have all perished sooner than we did. The trip to our motel, a mile or two out of "ninda- byne, took about three hours. Our lakeside motel had its own breed of "central heating" and "colour T.V." i.e. one colour T.V. in the whole block and Marg ard Co. managed to get it. The rest of us suffered and watched black and white, if it worked. (T.V. snacks were popular in most rooms, as were parties which produced many decibels of noise, not- ably from rooms three and five.)

Monday evening we were all fitted with our skis and "Frankenstein" boots, and then practised skiing in our rooms after dinner. The snowfall was good this season and we saw outr first snow several miles from Smiggire F{oles where we went to ski every day. Tuesday morning saw us all on the bus, on time (naturally), cameras loaded and waiting for the hrst snow. Our first tresson wasn't until the afternoon, and so for the skiing beginners, the morning resulted in many falls and surprised looks from other skiers when confnonted with E.G.G.S. girls with no brakes. Ofcourse the "experienced" skiers from last year's trip were already skiing down the slopes as if they'd been there for a month. Ey the afternoon we were convinced that lessons weren't such a bad idea after alX. The lessons were an experience, what with yodelling Austrians and "gappy" Jeff from Wollon- gong, and our great "Banana Eender" talent. Next morning we all had sornething to practise. Our second lesson on Wednesday afternoon was supposed to teach us io turn and stop, instead we stopped and turned. Snow fell during our Wednes- day lesson, for the first time since our arrival. Shortly a{terwards, members of the B.G.S. Snowy Trip arrived.
