ts"G.G.S" & B.G.S" CO&{tsNNED SCHS@N, PE,,&V SweerneyT'odd This year the joint venture of the combined school play produced many spills and laughs with the production of "sweeney Todd and N,Iad Barber of Fleet Street". Catching the atmosphere of melo- drama is hard for anv cast and so ofr actors found themselves relying -heavily upon our director producer Brian Cannon. Sweeney Todd was a Victorian barber who "polished off'his customers, collecting wallets and other valuables for his own gain and then sending their bodies to Mrs. Lovett's Pie shoo next dooi where they were made into choice veai pies. AII was proceeding smoothly until the appearance of the STRING OF PEARLS in the possession of Mark Ingestre. Sweeney Todd did not reckon on Mark Ingestre's desire to see his dear sweetheart again and due to the strength of Mark's passion, Sweeney Todd finds himself t-ace to face with his own guilt. Frison and guilt was too much for the mad barber to accept, so he took the easy way out - suicide., but only tb return at the finisli to impress upon the world, or just the audience, that he was still evil. Although the productions went successfully from the audience point of view, backstage was airother story altogether. lVhen you have a Stage Manager yqoge favourite_saying is "e.e. got 'em a beautylt a lighting crew who can't do without their coffip, a {ag9 crew who are notorious sleepers (yes Michael Tucker this means you), and a prbps corner where things go clunk in the night, it iSn't surprising when it's compared to the Boer War.
