{-ihrary ldotes As always, we must thank the I-ibrarian, Mrs. Riggs, and her Assistant, Mrs. Tynan, for their hard work in keeping the library running as smoothly as it does. Mrs. Tynan joined us at the beginning of this year, after Mrs. Needham left us to go overseas. On Open Day in April, the Archives section displayed our collection of "antiques" which includes a number of books over one hundred years old. In June, several of our representatives attended a I-ibrary conference at Churchie. School Day saw a general display of various parts of the library, featuririg our collection of old photographs. Our fund-raising effort included a new-and-used book staltr, and the showing of films in the Fiction l-ibrary. The Constitution of the l-ibrary Committee was "rediscovered" this yeal, and has now been amended to suit modern conditions. The photo-copying machine, another recent innovation, has proved to be a very popular addition, and we wonder how we managed without it. Credit for this last busy and successful year must go to Mrs. Riggs, Mrs. Tynan, the assistants, volunteers and bookbinders, whose hard but in- dispensable work ensures that the members of the School derive the utmost benefit from the Library. Janet Stern (Secretary) Interact Club At the end of second term, with the encourage- ment & co-operation of Mr. Logan from B.G.S., the fust official meeting of the newly formed B.G.G.S. Interact Club was held, with membership open to all Fourth and Fifth Formers. Barbara Durie was elected president, with Helen Bingemann as vice-president, Heather Torney as Treasurer and Julie Enwright, Beth Vockler and Linda Todd as directors. Some of the members attended a district conference with other clubs at Gympie. The club moved into action immediately by raising $84.00 from a raffle on School Day, taking part in Freedom from Hunger and Cancer Campaign appeals, and beginning arrange- ments to recyle wastes from school. On October l6th the charter night was held and all club members were presented with Interact badges and gifts from Windsor Rotary Club, our sponsor, as well as a gavel from the B.G.S. Interact Club. It is hoped that a large amount of interest continues to be shown in the club in the future, and that the B.G.G.S. club serves to the best of its ability in the school and community-
Sailing Ctub
The first function held by the Sailing Club this year was a Regatta with Brisbane Grammar Sailing Club at Brisbane Sailing Club. Despite the fairly light, patchy winds, one of our members succeeded in testing the temperature of the Brisbane River several times during the race. The net result? One third place and one case of pneumonia. Patchy winds were certainly not the feature of the next Regatta. The boys were honoured quests at this one as well, held at Caloundra with the aid of Caloundra All Boats Sailing Club. The start of the race was heralded by a violent squall with wind gusts up to about thirty knots and visibility down to ten feet. Strong winds and rain persisted during the rest of the race, and those boats which were not lost out to sea or sunk in the channel made a geat race of it to the end. This time we scored one first place and several cases of pneumonis. Improving all the time! The last outing of the season was a relatively uneventful duy at Redcliffe, no capsizes, no drownings, not even a cold, nothing except perhaps a mild case of sunburn to prove anything a great moment had taken place. Thanks are due to both Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Kugelman. Without their help and co-operation, none of these outings would have been possible.
