E.gs.vs. Egq-s" J""r[,ll The final of Rugby Mongrel Football was played at the B.G.S. oval on 1st July in conjunction with the B.G.S. Open Day. The teams fielded by the schools were obv:iously top class teams (with one a little "topper" than the other, of course). The B.G-S. team conilited of some reasonably competent players-one was just competent enough to be chased lght off the goundr by ihe entire B.G.G.S' Cheer Squad. The Juperior feam and favourite to take the title, however, was the girls' side, at the mention of whom the "All Blacks" are said to turn white. They averaged 15 stone (including super Stella, the 4rh stonJhalf-back) and 6 foot 2 inches, and, up to the day of the maich, were said to have "accidentally" kiled fifty-three opponents. On hand to supervise the match were referees Mr. Richardson and Mrs. Salzman, who were in turn supervised by the B.G.G.S. Cheer Squad and the worthy members of St. Lucifer's Ambulance Brigade. Unforiunately, Mr. Richardson failed his pre-match medical test-and was carried from the field by the members of St. Lucifer's. By virtue of his persuasive manner, he was later allowed to return on probation. The refbrees were, in consequence, most impartial- the penalties went to the girli in a ratio of about four to one. Nevertheless, the B.G.S. team fought tenaciously and held their opposition in tackles equally tenaciously, and even- more dubiously, to level the score at 'iten all" just before full-time. Both teams scored two tries, converted one, and kicked one penalty goai. Even though the ts:g'G.S. were obviously keeping their usually terrifying tactics down tb the level of their less experienced opposition, congratulations must go to the boys for their commendable effort in tying the match against such first rate opposition.
