BEANLAND

08 | BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022

I nspired by Sophia Beanland, pioneer and Lady Principal (1882 1890), the 2022 motto for Beanland House was Pink and Proud, Let’s Get Loud . As a House, we believe this encapsulates the spirit, pride, and enthusiasm that Beanland girls demonstrate every day. Despite the challenging start to the year, facing the continuation of the global pandemic and severe flooding, these ongoing obstacles challenged us as individuals and ultimately united all of Beanland. We may have kicked off the year online, but this didn’t dampen morale as the whole House dressed in their pink to come together in spirit. Then, the excitement to return to campus came in full force as we hosted Beanland’s House Party following the theme ‘Pink Pyjama Party’! We saw girls dress up in their favourite pink pyjamas and fluffy slippers as they participated in friendly competitions, including doughnut eating, musical statues, and limbo. Throughout the year, Fridays became our favourite day as we started each morning with House Assemblies. These were quite active with crazy obstacle courses and fun team-building exercises. House Assemblies promoted teamwork, physical activity, and healthy rivalry through engaging and enjoyable activities across all age groups within the House.

Overall, as House Captains, we focused solely on promoting happiness and ensuring that every single Beanland Bear felt supported and welcomed in the House. Beanland’s competitiveness and spirit was put on display at the Interhouse events this year. We showcased the pink support system that underpins our House through face paint, costumes, and posters to congratulate and appreciate all achievements whether academic, sporting, or artistic. Memorably, we came second in both the Interhouse Athletics and Choir Competition! It is clear to all of us that, given the amazing support and passion from our Head of House during our laughter-filled meetings, this year’s success is truly owed to Mrs Cross. We are both so proud of our Beanland sisters and will always cherish the loving experiences we have made. As we embark upon our new chapter in life and leave Girls Grammar behind, it is our hope that our pink sisters continue to foster the incredible spirit and pride of the Beanland Bear and make the most of every opportunity to be pink and proud wherever they go.
