SERVICE REPORT

O ur vision for the Service program this year is best encapsulated in three words: growth; love; and passion. These words inspired our motto, Generate Generosity , an action-oriented phrase which captures the strong desire of Grammar students to give back to the community, to be kind, and to be generous. BGGS students have embraced this concept, bringing an overwhelming sense of enthusiasm to Service Groups, awareness and fundraising events. Annual events, such as White Blouse Day and ANZAC Day, were remarkable successes, garnering widespread support from the student body. Our Year 10 and senior students also Generated Generosity within our local community, with many students taking time out of their already busy schedules to complete Community Service and Contributions. We have had the opportunity to support a variety of House and Service Group charities, including the 2022 School Charity: Beddown. This incredible organisation repurposes car parks and vacant spaces that are vacant during the night to provide safe places for Australians facing homelessness to sleep, shower, or receive other support services.

Due to the devastating floods, which destroyed the homes and livelihoods of many Brisbane residents early in 2022, we believed this was an area of significant need where our support would truly matter. As well as fundraising $1810.60 for Beddown through Student Council initiatives, we have raised awareness of persistent homelessness in Brisbane by participating in the ‘Shed Your Bed’ challenge. Moreover, in lieu of Open Day, students raised money for respective House charities by bringing the highly anticipated stalls to lunchtimes. We commend their innovation and ability to adapt. We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in Service this year, particularly House Service Captains, Service Group Leaders, staff coordinators of Service and Charity Groups and the Director of Service, Ms Mungomery, for her ongoing support. SAVE THE CHILDREN T he 2022 Ukraine Crisis has shone a light on the importance of providing emergency aid, medicine, and support for children exposed to devastating situations. This year, it is important to recognise the importance of giving back to vulnerable people in difficult circumstances. Throughout the year, our Service Group has held several activities and stalls to raise funds and promote awareness for this crucial cause. In Term 1, we sold exam block study bags. We then held an Easter raffle and a Big Bear Raffle in Term 4. Our Club supports the Save the Children organisation, which aims to improve children’s lives through better education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts, such as the Ukraine conflict. These funds, and awareness

raised, can make a huge difference in children’s lives. Tung-Hi Ma (11H) and Sophia McKinnon (12L)
