O'CONNOR
022 | BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022
W hile the year commenced with a Zoom meeting, rather than the typical House Group, 2022 has been more successful than we had first anticipated. O’Connor’s House Party was themed ‘Wild Wild West’ and it was a great start to the year, kickstarting our time back on campus. Our motto for the year, The sisterhood starts with our octopi hearts , created by the 2022 O’Connor seniors was set to encompass three key values: kindness; individuality; and teamwork—each represented by the three hearts in an octopus. O’Connor managed to take home the win at Interhouse Cross Country with a close one-point lead ahead of Griffith. Without the immense efforts and participation of all the girls in the House, this win wouldn’t have been possible. It really goes to show how important it is to show up, get involved, and make every point count. While Interhouse Athletics did not quite go our way, we managed to make a come-back for Interhouse Choir with the well-known hit You Belong with Me by Taylor Swift, where O’Connor brought home a well-deserved third place.
Early in the year, the media was flooded with news focused on the war between Russia and Ukraine. The war had devastating impacts on Ukrainian families and so, this year, we decided to dedicate our House Charity to UNICEF Australia. In doing so, we hoped to be able to implement real change, now, to be able to support children and families in desperate need of support. Although Open Day this year did not go ahead, we were still able to raise money for our House Charity by holding the ‘O’Connic’ Brownie stall during lunch. While we were faced with some obstacles this year, we were able to overcome all that challenged us; however, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Year 12 O’Connor and our amazing Head of House, Ms Boyle. Overall, our experience this year has been even more incredible than we had hoped. Olivia Patane (12O) and Alexis Zacharyga (12O) HOUSE CAPTAINS
