LILLEY

018 | BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022

G et mean, get keen, and fire up the green! was the motto for Lilley House in 2022. This year, we wanted to spark a more competitive flare within our Froggie sisters, and so after much deliberation, we chose our motto, and concocted a brand-new war cry for the House, retiring the old one to become the ‘Lilley song’. Although our goals did not exactly go to plan, with attendance at the Swimming Carnival being limited to competitive swimmers only, Lilley House came back better than ever at the first Interhouse event of the year—Cross Country—where everyone put in their best efforts to tackle the hills at Victoria Park to secure an admirable sixth place. Once again, things didn’t exactly go to plan with the cancellation of Open Day, meaning Lilley girls weren’t sent into their annual fudge frenzy to provide enough fudge to supply the entire Brisbane Girls Grammar School community. Despite this, Year 11 Lilley girls manned a smaller-scale fudge stall held at lunch in Term 4 to raise funds for our House Charity: Lily House. Next on the agenda was Interhouse Athletics—a particularly special event for the Year 7, 8, and 9 girls who had never had an Athletics Carnival before. It was a fantastic day, and everyone was ecstatic to hear Ms Euler Welsh announce that Lilley House had come first place at the carnival—for the first time in 22 years!

A big thank you must go to Mia Hamilton (12L) and Bronte Stathis (12L) for their role as our House Sports Captains, and the tireless effort they put in behind the scenes to ensure Lilley House had a girl in almost every race. Interhouse Choir was the next event in the busy calendar, where we channelled our inner Harry Styles and sang Drag me Down by One Direction. Although we didn’t come away with first place, it was lots of fun wearing backwards caps in front of the entire school, and the atmosphere after the performance was unforgettable. Overall, 2022 was a fantastic year for Lilley House filled with fun, competition, and bonding as a House—none of this would have been possible without our fantastic Head of House, Mrs Edwards, and her ongoing support throughout the entirety of the year.
