ECOMAN
D uring Term 3, Year 11 Economics and Accounting students from BGGS and BGS engaged in the annual business simulation competition, Economics and Management (ECOMAN). In Year 10, Economics students were introduced to the ECOMAN program in their classrooms where they learned about the factors affecting businesses and their performance, such as changing economic climates, through to a simulation of the operations of a medium-sized manufacturing company. This year, students were able to further their understanding as they focused more on how economic factors and relationships with shareholders affect a business's performance. Teams competed to achieve the highest share price by making decisions in response to economic forecasts and business performance. As the finale of the competition, teams reported to shareholders in a simulated Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This experience was highly enjoyable and rewarding for everyone who competed as we were challenged to constantly think outside our comfort zone and transfer our learnings from the classroom into real-life business situations. It was an amazing opportunity that provided me with valuable insight into the direct operations of businesses and their place in the economy. I developed a deeper understanding of the knowledge I had learned from my Accounting and Economics classroom and gained a deeper appreciation for the inner workings of a business. QUEENSLAND HISTORY TEACHERS WRITING COMPETITION
I n the QHTA competition, students in Years 7 to 12 in Queensland and the Northern Territory are invited to submit an essay or other historical writing (e.g. a report, diary entry, newspaper article, feature article) based on research or an independent source investigation that fits particular categories, conditions, and criteria. The rigorous research process we were encouraged to take was highly beneficial for our education as it taught us to be critical and perceptive when investigating various texts. The task also granted us the ability to use and analyse sources in a way that reflected and strengthened our nuanced historical viewpoint. Girls Grammar had resounding success in the competition in the past year. Charlotte Banney (12L)
