The west wind howled, the sky grew dark , And stormy grew the sea, The sun was hid behind thick clouds , ~When a ship appeared t ~ me . I stood on the cliff by the lashing waves, Watching their white , crests rise; When a ship came tossing across those waves- ! could hear the sailor's cries . Her prow was low, her stern was high Her masts were snapp'd in twain; Her sails were rent, and her rails were down- She fought against the strain. Louder and louder roared the wind, And fiercer lashed the sea; The black rocks rose all round the ship- It seemed like a dream, to me. The ship went down, her decks were swamped, And her timbers were scalter'd wide; The drowning bodies were flung around, And tossed by lhe cruel tide . Next morn, the sea was as clear as glass , Save for the wreckage grim; T'was many a month 'ere that awful night In my memory grew dim. This eve, as I stand on that lonely cliff, I think back on the night When I stood there so long ago, And saw that horrible sight.

~ SOLUTION TO CROSSWORD PUZZLE (See page 52)
No longer does the west wind howl, No longer boils the sea; I'll stand no more in this dread place, Where my love was lost to me.
